VE6/HC-255, Mockingbird Hill

This one was not easy, I first attempted this on February 20th in the sunshine. I was setup early, tagged a summit to summit with David VE6DTS and waited my turn to spot. Once I fired that spot I was Un able to get any connections, not sure if it was radio, antennas or operator error.

I circled back with Mallen(VE6VID aka. The GOAT), David(VE6DTS) Gohkan(VA6GOK and made a plan to get back up for redemption. With a 8:30 wake up I rolled to the base of the forest service road at 10:00. From there we ascended the 3 km and 355 m to the activation zone. Feeling less stressed and more organized I setup my antenna’s pressed tune and got the show on the road.

CQ, CQ, CQ, Summits On The Air. Boom they came in fast pilling up so quickly. Within minutes I had already hit 7 contacts on 14.343 from Arizona to Utah to California. It felt just as good as my square butte activation.

I then shut down the radio to allow David to jump on the frequency. While he was doing that I quickly called CQ on my VHF rig and got Paul VA6MPM. Fun enough this is our second Summit 2 Summit this year. Maybe we should make this a bit more of a trend.

Mallen and I wondered around between the two guys as they got the contacts they needed. A successful activation for the 3 of us and we stepped back and enjoyed the beautiful views.

It was amazing to be around all of these guys and pick up tricks and tips along the way. For me hands on learning is key and essential for me to strive in a hobby. So thank you to the guys for hanging out with me and helping me get redemption with Mocking Bird Hill.

Catch you on the air. 73.
